Given Lines is a series of small-scale drawings celebrating the return of movement and life to the city following the pandemic lockdowns.
Old Compton Street, Soho
My drawings record the ‘lines given’ by people moving through public space.
I conducted a poll of where in central London felt significant to return to following the lockdowns and made many tiny drawings as a record of these locations.
Each drawing is 7.5cm x 11cm.
Brewer Street, Soho
They are both analogous to long-exposure photography and diametrically opposite, a record of human observation and a reminder that our city exists through our presence.
In an era of big data and mass measurement of daily life, they are a testament to the hand drawn line.
