‘Given Lines’ is a public installation by artist Katherine Brown.
She celebrates the return of movement and life to the city following the pandemic lockdowns. Her drawings record the ‘lines given’ by people moving through public space. In turn her drawings continue their movement, as they are given away freely to passersby in Soho, outside the House of St Barnabas.
In an era of big data and mass measurement of daily life they are a testament to the hand drawn line. They are both analogous to long-exposure photography and diametrically opposite, a record of human observation and a reminder that our city exists through our presence.
