A mask and video-poem by K.L.Brown for a group show with the Valencia-based collective of artists Colonia Roma. This mask is currently on show at Casa Cabanyal in Valencia, until late October 2020.
Mask – tree bark, wire, wool, gouache.
I am interested in the transformative power of masks – how they allow the wearer to access a different world, beyond the immediate and rational present.
They let us shake-off status and expectation, so we can create new possibilities. We enter into a new dialogue with ourselves and the world around us.
This mask is about my relationship with nature and the unknown. My sense of this feels heightened by the current pandemic. I documented myself wearing this mask in the woods that inspired it
