Building Paintings

Inspired by funny shape skies between the buildings of Valencia. Here is where things started:

But I knew I wanted to get to something bolder and stronger. I still had Patrick Heron’s paintings floating in my mind’s eye. Simpler forms and using colour to project volume. So I made a plan

Composition planning

From my recent colour experiments, I wanted to test using colour to make things recede back (B) or protrude forward (F).

My second study was inspired by the monochrome pieces I saw at the recent Anna-Eva Bergman show. I loved how these ‘simple’ apparently black forms and horizons had so much depth and colour below the surface. I wanted to see if I could create a similar effect.

And I quite like the three sat together.
