Cabanyal Canvas

My first bash at painting on canvas. I found a pretty hideous canvas on the street last year and knew it was due a transformation …

I hacked off the artifical flowers pretty early on. Then it sat there, saccharine and pink, for a long time in my studio. Occasionally I’d use up some left over ink, to slowly obliterate the hearts …

Still pink and unloved …

Then a recent sketch from the Canbanyal neighbourhood of Valencia inspired me, and I had a direction…

From there I worked through a lot of colour …

Building up colour. The yellow a bit queasy
Getting rid of those hearts.
Tackling the yellow. Knocking it back with red and softening the sky.
More softening the sky
Getting that silohouette feeling
Up close and finished
From a distance. With some other buildings.
